Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I drop my child off to attend an Echidnas meeting?

A. No.  Echidnas is a group of both parents and students.  One cannot attend without the other.

Q.  How do you accomplish anything with such a large group of parents and children?

A.  Parents and students meet separately.  While parents gather in one meeting room, students meet independently lead by professional speech and language pathologists and staff experienced with Autism and spergers.

Q.  What type of snacks are served to the teens?

A.  Our students love pizza and root beer!  Other snacks have included hotdogs and sandwiches.

Q.  What type of social activities does your group go to?

A.  Our group selects activities that will interest our student members.  Previous activities have included bowling, swimming, miniature golf, laser tag and restaurant dinners.

Q.  I have a third grader - can we join your group?

A.  Unfortunately no.  Echidnas is open to middle and high school students only.  We would be happy to share information if you are interested in beginning your own group for this age group.

Q.  Do I have to pay membership dues at my first meeting attended?

A.  No.  We encourage you and your student to visit a minimum of two meetings to determine if this group is the right fit for your family.  Membership and fees are not required until the second month of attendance.

Q.  What is HFA?

A.  High Functioning Autism.

Q.  Who runs this group?

A.  Echidnas is organized and lead by it's parent members.  All parents are encourged to be an active member in this organization by participating in discussions, serving on a committee or accepting a leadership role.

Q.  Are you currently accepting new members?

A.  As of April, 2008, our membership is at capacity.  If you would like to learn more about our group or get on our waiting list, send us an email telling us about yourself and your child and will are happy to add you to our list.
