Who Are We?
Echidnas is a small, non-profit organization for middle and high school students with Asperger’s Syndrome (age 13 and older), dedicated to developing social and life skills to promote independence and productivity into adulthood. Our group includes both students and parents who meet concurrently in Richardson Texas.
Many of our teens have been diagnosed with other challenges as well as Asperger's, but our focus is Asperger’s Syndrome. Echidnas can best serve students with Asperger's as their MAIN diagnosis, even though other issues may exist.
Members live all over the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex from Plano to Farmersville to Cedar Hill. Meetings are open to any family with AS. Students are instructed by licensed speech pathologists in social skills. In addition to our formal meetings social outings are scheduled on a monthly basis for real application use of social skills.
For Students
· An opportunity to focus on the development of social and life skills
· A place to foster self-esteem and friendships
· A place which encourages acceptance of self and others
· A forum to learn skills for succeeding in a socially oriented world

For Parents
• An opportunity to discuss and learn about topics of mutual interest

From an Echidnas Parent, August 2008
Last night my son and I were talking - he said that he thought having "Aspergian traits" was a positive thing and that he liked himself just the way he is. Again, after the horrendous last year and the way he would tell me that he felt like a piece of trash while he was at school every day, these new positive feeling about himself are making us all so happy.
He's so looking forward to the Echidnas meeting next week and is just feeling so good about the way things are going. Thanks for finding room for us in the group! We treasure you all more then I can even begin to say. For everyone who starts school next week, happy first day! May everyone have a great first day experience and a wonderful year to come!
